Hudson, Cassandra and Justin: Laguna Beach

This fantastic New York family currently lives in LA but will be returning to the Big Apple soon, so I am very glad that we got to meet up with them at the beach below the Montage in Laguna Beach for an afternoon photo session. Hudson is eight months old and FULL of personality.

This series of three cracks me up. Hudson eating a stick. Justin running to Hudson. Hudson happy as a clam.

What an amazing bunch of photogenic women! Tiffany and I went to high school together but then she moved away, but comes back to visit often, and we have stayed in touch thanks to Facebook. I was so excited to photograph her 5 year old bundle of personality Bella, and her extended family. Her aunt Cyrene's house was perfect for the shoot, with hallways of great light and a fabulous deck area. We had a blast and the little girls were totally into it (I knew Bella would be when I saw those high tops). And Tiffany consented to some pics of her - she is stunningly beautiful and has no idea, which only makes her 10 times more beautiful. :) (she'll hate me for saying that.)

I met Jenn in 6th grade at Harbor Day School (so just a few years ago). She was, and still is, hilarious, irreverent, and fun. She hired me for some head shots a few months back and when we finally were able to put something on the calendar, she asked if she could bring her friend Kate along. They are both creative and innovative and are working on several collective projects and wanted some pictures together for marketing materials for their joint undertakings. I was thrilled....we decided to head down to Laguna and find some great light in the alleys and back streets there. It was a wonderful afternoon...the light was great and my two models were light hearted, easy going and gorgeous!

They are both stunning! Love how these black and whites turned out. (They jumped in the back door of the kitchen of a restaurant.:) )

Love their coordinating dresses too....totally fashionistas. (Confession: My husband jumped in and was the stylist/location scout for the day. He has a fantastic eye for color, style, fashion. He might kill me for sharing that, but I'll take my chances. And he is my backup shooter and a lot of the great shots of the day are his.)

They are hilarious! Love them laughing.

Thanks ladies, for a truly fantastic and fun day. I have not laughed that much at a photo shoot in a long time. It was such an enjoyable afternoon and I can't wait to see that amazing things that you too produce together.

a night in the life: nate and emma

These are all from an evening with two of my college friends, Liz and Rick (I can't seem to stop calling him Ricky), who subsequently married after college and produced first one adorable child, then more recently, another. I love taking my camera along on nights without a scheduled shoot, and get to capture kids in their natural ~~habitat~~ setting: dinner, a little drum time, streaking the hallways, bath-time and bedtime. (Love you lchillin.)

Nate is such a wonderful, and surprisingly gentle, big brother.

He knows all the names of the different drums and takes playing along to the Mary Poppins soundtrack very seriously.

(Rosie, love the block letters! Perfect for their rooms. :) )

on a beautiful crisp winter day. (it is still winter, right?) roaming around with my camera with my sights set on a fantastic antique store called Country Road. I think antiquing might be my new ~~addiction~~ ~~problem~~ hobby!

We lost our beautiful big guy Blazer last month but have a fabulous, smart, wild-child of a new puppy named Dakota who is helping to heal our hearts a little bit. He and Kira are becoming fast friends, although he does spend much of his time with her biting her legs and jumping on her head. Poor Grandma Kira. But she seems to have a new saunter in her step and the two of them have been taking trips to the dog park almost every day, which helps us be able to sleep through the night. That whole things about puppies being like newborns? Totally true.

We took Matt's boat from Ballard to Lake Washington on a 25 degree day. It was sensationally beautiful.

While these 75 and 80 degree days here in Orange County do make winter a little easier to manage, I miss the Northwest all the time. How could you not? Its beauty is everywhere...in the water, the forests, the people, my friends.

We spent New Years in Seattle under very sad circumstances but one of the bright lights of our trip was spending time with Megan, who is the daughter of my longtime friend Matty and his fantastic wife Julie. She is quite possibly the happiest and most content baby that I have ever met, cuddly and giggly and sweet.

Emma has never spent Christmas Eve with us before, so she wanted to make sure that Santa knew where to park his sleigh. She spent a good amount of time this afternoon laying out where each reindeer should stop.

It was a privilege to photograph this patient, loving family and their new addition. They have been waiting a long time for her to come into their lives.

Kara is another of my long time friends (since 6th grade!) who married a guy who we were friends with in high school. Its a very small world down here in Orange County. Their son Jake is hilarious, independent and moves very quickly. Very, very quickly. We shot all of these in Laguna Beach on a sunny winter day....in a tiny little park and one of the great alleys which Laguna is full of.

Luckily for tired parents of fast moving toddlers....they wind down pretty quickly too.

This is the amazing couple whose wedding we are photographing in May at the Carmel Mission and the Santa Lucia preserve. We headed up to the Central Coast over Thanksgiving for a little R&R and an amazing photo shoot on a gorgeous winter day.

Courtney is going to be a stunning bride - she is naturally beautiful and simply gracious.

I love the humor that comes out in these shots - they have an ease about them that speaks to their seven years together.

We are so excited to participate in their May wedding and so grateful for the opportunity. It is going to be a beautiful event for all of us involved.

I love it when parents show up at family shoots with a great sense of humor, a good attitude and tons of ideas for fun things to do in the pictures. It absolutely shows in the photos and makes my job a piece of cake. With extra frosting. In this case, the kids had some great ideas too, and I love that their creativity shows as well.

Beautiful mom. Love it when moms let me take pics of them, because so often they are so busy orchestrating behind the scenes, calming tears and wiping noses, that they hardly make it into any pictures.

Love this one. Not posed at all. They are truly affectionate with each other.

Wonderful, fun family shoot, perfect for the holiday season.

I am lucky enough to get to photograph the Taylors every year.

The newest addition is Griffin, who is quite possibly one of the cutest babies I have ever photographed.

With the exception of his big brother Caden, who has settled into his big brother role with pride....and some fabulous four-year old sassiness.

I am very thankful to know this wonderful family who encouraged me to get my business going three years ago and have stuck with me from the beginning. I love the rhythm that their life is finding and I can't wait to see the personalities of these amazing kids get bigger and bigger!

Reece, Riley and Bryce

These kiddos are growing up FAST! I have know both of their parents since high school, and it is very cool to watch their children's faces and personalities change through the years and take on the different traits of their parents, and also become their own people.

Reece is the oldest...sassy, sensitive, strong. Funny as her mother and apparently quite the dancer. She is very athletic, extremely endearing and growing up to become a generous, helpful, kind young lady with a beautiful smile and warm eyes.

Riley is the middle child. She is quickly coming into her own...she is determined, strong willed, sassy like her sister, calm and thoughtful. She has an ethereal beauty that reminds me of a fairytale.

And Bryce. The baby boy who is not even close to a baby any more. He is ALL. BOY. Strong, fast, athletic, both cuddly and independent. With a laugh that is infectious and a voice that is endearingly raspy.

And they ALL have their mother's hilarious, irreverent sense of humor.

Thank you Cheree for letting me capture them! It is amazing to watch and participate in their growing up.

i have Loved reading my entire life (some may say obsessed....i carry my Kindle EVERYWHERE...jon always says its "in case a read breaks out" but seriously, you never know. stuck elevators, late clients, carpool line? got my kindle. and 63 just-in-case books.)

Emma has always enjoyed being read to but its only in the last few months that she has become a reader. She even wanted me to take her to Barnes and Noble to get the BFG, Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh and Danny the Champion of the World.

Another fabulous afternoon spent photographing an old friend from junior high and her beautiful family, including both sides of grandparents which was very special. Jack is a gorgeous, personality filled little guy....he was smiley and easy going for well over an hour of shooting. (Thanks Nana Band!) It was wonderful to reconnect after 20 years...I can't believe its been that long. It felt like we were still 13 catching up again. Thank you Ninia and Andy...can't wait to spend more time together.

JC and I spent the day on Sunday with my boarding school big sister (and that is a story unto itself) and her husband, who graciously took us sailing in Mission Bay in San Diego and then hosted a movie night in their backyard overlooking the canyon. Needless to say, the whole day was spectacular.

JC and I went adventuring around the OC this morning looking for new locations for some upcoming shoots that I have. We were surprised at how many cool places that we found, including this one at UCI that had everything....views, long grass, shady wooden bench areas and bright flowers.

Experimenting with different watermarks, and also trying to decide whether to use my last name as part of my watermark and torture people with having to spell it.
